Know Your Numbers Week
Posted or Updated on 4 Sep 2025
Just a little reminder that Know Your Numbers Week is coming up in September, from the 8 to 14 September and is hosted by Blood Pressure UK.
People living in Humber and North Yorkshire are being encouraged to get their blood pressure checked as part of a national annual campaign. An estimated 150,000 people in Humber and North Yorkshire are thought to be living with undiagnosed high blood pressure. High blood pressure is known as the “silent killer” – no symptoms, just risk. It can lead to heart attacks and strokes. It can also cause kidney disease, dementia and other illnesses. However, these tragedies can be prevented through awareness of high blood pressure, blood pressure checks and management. Around a third of people in the UK have high blood pressure, but most don’t know it. It doesn’t have any symptoms so, the only way to find out is to have a blood pressure check. Once you Know Your Numbers you can get support to bring your blood pressure under control and prevent these diseases.
This year's theme is all about undiagnosed high blood pressure, and in Humber and North Yorkshire, the main focus will be on access to blood pressure testing. We know there are a range of different community-based BP Check options available across the system, including community-based BP stations, Health Kiosks, BP machines in Libraries, along with the NHS Community Pharmacy Blood Pressure Check Service who offer free blood pressure checks and lifestyle advice for people aged 40 and over in England.
